Thrice-crowned MVP Jokic endures a 'heartbreaking' leg setback.
Three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic sustained a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee when the Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 against the Miami Heat.
The star player sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half following an accidental contact with teammate Spencer Jones.
The other player landed on the foot of the big man, and he instantly fell to the floor grabbing his knee.
The 30-year-old, who leads the NBA season in boards and assists, recorded a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to suffering the injury.
The player will undergo an scan on the following day to evaluate the seriousness of the problem.
"Right away, he realized something was wrong," stated Denver coach David Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Whoever who is injured, it's difficult, especially a player as talented as him. We will know more tomorrow."
"We will continue together. Clearly, at this moment, I'm more concerned primarily about Jokic personally and the frustration of going through an event like that."
