This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life free from concern.”
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people yelling “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
