The Showrunner Reveals He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... Currently.
The creative mastermind did not foresee that Pluribus would emerge as a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”
With the first season of the popular sci-fi show wrapping up—and Season 2 officially in the works—Gilligan and his team opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.
About the Incredible Audience Reaction
It would be easy to get distracted by the rampant praise and fan theories regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to steer clear of all that.
“It feels like constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it from others, and that's on purpose. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”
Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.
“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by online forums.”
“Better to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.
The Central Mystery: Has Vince Gilligan See the Finale of Pluribus?
So if the creative staff are not listening by fan response, does that mean they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… sort of.
“We've developed some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to discard a good idea for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”
Alternatively, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.
“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”
Alternatively, why not reference the classics?
“My dream is Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.
