The Renowned Musician Calls On Support to Send Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Christmas No 1.
A charity drive is aiming to propel a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The campaign aims to send support to communities in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an surprise number one.
“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a category of their own.”
Defiant Message of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's powerful central theme.
“The song holds a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Star-Studded Lineup
The track was produced in the wake of a solidarity show held in late summer. Originally intended to be performed and recorded live, the performance was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The impressive roster of performers appearing on Lullaby encompasses a selection of prominent voices from the scene. All were part of the September show, which reportedly raised a significant sum for relief efforts.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was produced by a group of music creators. The track showcases a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with freshly written English words.
The group managing the campaign have clarified that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These resources will be allocated to Palestinian causes through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a representative commented. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Of course, the more the merrier. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The situation in the area was described as its profound destruction, with a vast majority of property said to be levelled or seriously harmed.
“Given that reality, a couple of million won't make a massive dent. But I think what truly matters is first of all raising awareness for this issue and showing there’s another side to the story.”
The song is launching this Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
