Grief as Renowned South African DJ Shot Dead in the Heart of Johannesburg.

A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation battling rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the central business district on Tuesday afternoon.

Officials stated the forty-year-old entertainer was approached by a trio of assailants, with one opened fire on him before running away.

The purpose behind the incident remains unclear and no arrests have taken place, according to authorities.

How It Happened

Law enforcement revealed that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a location close to the Carlton Centre.

He had been present for hours at the property managing the setup of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, according to reports.

"It is alleged the victim was approached by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before running from the location on foot," authorities stated.

Surveillance tape showed a man with dreadlocks and dressed in what resembled a security uniform opening fire on Stock before running away.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was wounded but succumbed to his injuries on the opposite side of the road.

Police added that Stock had an weapon on his person and no items were stolen during the attack.

Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were found at the location.

Police have appealed members of the public who may have witnessed the attack to contact them.

"Evidence suggests they covered significant ground after the shooting, and officers have been tracking them to determine their location," stated a police chief.

His sister, a close relative, expressed the loved ones are reeling to come to terms with the loss.

"I am devastated. I cannot express the pain," were her words.
"It is clear he was a champion for numerous individuals. He spoke out bravely about issues not many people were ready to tackle. This is a tremendous loss."

In a release, the channel he worked for said Stock was known for his presence, approachability and sharp wit, adding that his legacy "will live on".
